Abstract
Diplomatic Intercourse as an art and an act, can be compared to a heterosexual relationship. It is an art in the sense that, special skills and a clear understanding of the requisite regulations and Convention regulating this sacred and age long art is required. It however doesn’t create room for showmanship because, a diplomatic agent, unlike an artist, has the weight of an entire nation on his shoulders and his actions are seen as that of his Country. It qualifies as an act since it is a sum total of the activities carried out by States for the furtherance of friendly relations amongst one another, irrespective of their different constitutional and social system. There is need for a Convention to regulate the diplomatic intercourse between States to further maintain international peace, security and promotion of friendly relations amongst nations. This piece is aimed at carefully dissecting relevant provisions of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, 1961, while making known the authors views with respect to some salient controversies. The piece briefly appraises the essence of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, 1961, and concludes with practicable recommendations.
