Abstract

In the study, catch efficiency and size composition of horse mackerel (Trachurus trachurus , L.) and bluefish caught (Pomatomus saltatrix , L.) by bottom trawl were compared in Middle Black Sea. 1925 kg horse mackerel and 1230 kg bluefish were caught in the study. The sea experiments were carried out in the two different fishing areas, West of Samsun and East of Samsun. Horse mackerel and bluefish were caught 1925 kg and 1230 kg respectively, end of the 8 tows in the two areas. Catch amount and average lenght of the horse mackerel and bluefish were determined 288.75±42.49 kg; 12.83±0.19 cm and 220±22.08 kg; 18.51±0.17 cm respectively to west area and 192.50±10.10 kg; 12.13± 0.15 cm and 87.50±7.22 kg; 16.12±0.17 cm respectively to east area. Difference between data was signifacant obtain from fishing areas to species (p<0.05). Results showed that selection fishing area is important to regarding succes of catch efficiency on bottom trawl fishing.
