Abstract

This paper describes the present development status of diode pumped Neodymium Lasers in various host materials and their use for commercial and scientific applications. These types of lasers are compact and need less lasing volume for same output energy as compared to flash pump lasers. But the thermoelectric module required for temperature tuning of diode laser frequency for required pump band are bulky and less efficient. Hence these system cannot be used in portable instruments required for defence or survey use, unless a compact and more efficient cooling system is developed. Therefore, to overcome this problem, a volatile liquid cooling system is proposed. This system if developed may offer the use of these system in various portable defence equipment required for application like ranging, designation or illumination.
