Abstract

Reaction of [Pt 2Cl 2(μ-Cl) 2(PR 3) 2] ( I) with NaTeAr gave [Pt 2Cl 2(μ-Cl)(μ-TeAr)(PR 3) 2] ( II) (Ar = Ph, tol- p, C 6H 4OMe- p or C 6H 4OEt- p; PR 3 = PBu n 3, PMe 2Ph), which on metathesis with KBr or KI afford the corresponding bromo ( III) and iodo ( IV) derivatives. Complex II on treatment with pyrazole or 3,5-dimethylpyrazole in the presence of NaOH gave [Pt 2Cl 2(μ-pz)(μ-TeAr)(PR 3) 2] ( V). These complexes ( II–V) were characterized by elemental analysis and 1H and 31P NMR data. The crystal structure of [Pt 2Cl 2(μ-Cl)(μ-TePh)(PBu n 3) 2] consists of a binuclear complex in which two platinum atoms are held together by TePh and Cl bridges. The phosphine ligands are trans to the bridging chloride ligand.
