Abstract

Treatment of L 2MCl 2 with AgBF 4 in wet tetrahydrofuran (THF)–CH 2Cl 2 or wet CH 2Cl 2–ethanol yields the dinuclear palladium(II) and platinum(II) hydroxo complexes [L 2M(μ-OH)] 2(BF 4) 2 (L 2=diimine, M=Pd, Pt). Reaction of the dihydroxo bridged complexes with aromatic amines (ArNH 2) yields the corresponding diamido bridged complexes [L 2M(μ-NHAr)] 2(BF 4) 2. [L 2M(μ-OH)] 2(BF 4) 2 is unstable in methanol and converts to [L 2M(μ-OMe)] 2(BF 4) 2. The structures of several of these complexes were determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction and show the expected edge-shared square-planar Pt centers with bridging hydroxo, methoxo, or amido groups. Attempts to deprotonate the hydroxo and amido complexes were not successful.
