Sympodial, climbing bamboo; internodes about 15 cm long, 620 mm diam., solid or hollow with small lumen, usually rather rough, covered with appressed white hairs. Branches several at each node, the primary branch bud dormant but elongating and reiterating the culm when the apex of the culm is damaged. Culm sheath 9 10 x 3.5 4 cm, narrowing to the apex about 2 3 mm wide at the junction with the blade, with appressed pale hairs, especially towards the base, hairs easily shed, culm sheath base narrow, about 1 3 mm wide, rugose, covered with white hairs; auricles not present; ligule 1 mm long, entire; blades erect, 1 4 (7.5) x 0.3 0.7 cm, linear-lanceolate to lanceolate, with long acuminate tip, usually glabrous (except pubescent near the base adaxially). Leaf-blades 9 19 (24) x 2 3 (5.5) cm, smooth, glabrous; sheaths usually glabrous; auricles not present; ligule not more than 1 mm long, entire. Inflorescence indeterminate, borne on leafless branches, about 6075 cm long, axes glabrous, or often with appressed white hairs (hairs easily shed); pseudospikelets up to 4 mm long; lemma glabrous, 1 mm long, 2 mm wide, acuminate, 7-nerved; palea 3 x 3 mm, glabrous, not clearly keeled, 6nerved; ovary glabrous, with long glabrous style; stamens 6, anthers with long apiculate apex.
