Abstract

The Helios-3 experiment was designed for the measuring of dimuons with low M ┴ (low mass and low ρ ┴) in S-W collisions at the SPS energy. The data cover the mass range up to J/ψ;. The ratio ϕ/(ρ+ω) was found to be increasing with the centrality due to different behaviour of the (ρ+ω) /π and ϕ/π. The data statistics is good enough for some investigation of the dimuon continuum in the mass range 1 < M μμ < 3 GeV / c 2. It is possible to explain the dimuon production in this mass range by resonance production, Drell-Yan process and charmed particle decays in p-W collisions, but in S-W there remains some unexplained excess over the contributions of the expected sources.
