Abstract

We present an analysis of the fluid mechanics of a plastic viscoelastic fluid which responds as an elastic solid with a high modulus. G 1, below the yield value. Attention is given to the use of dimensional analysis to study flow behavior. Recovery following flow is intepreted in terms of the response of the elastic solid to the release of stresses equal to those existing in the initial steady flow field. Unconstrained recovery from both uniaxial extension and shear flow are considered.
