Abstract

ABSTRACT Discharge into water bodies from submerged multiport diffusers is characterised by a variety of feasible flow configurations. Experiments were carried out in a model tray for two submerged multiport diffuser configurations of finite length under various ambient and effluent discharge conditions. The results of dilution parameter match reasonably well with the water quality model CORMIX (Cornell Mixing Zone Expert System), but the experimental investigations show more sensitivity for different multiport configurations. Non-dimensional curves of experimental investigations show the trend of dilution parameter under different hydraulic conditions. The result thus obtained may be extrapolated for prototype effluent discharge simulation with suitable scale.
