Abstract

An equation has been derived relating the Huggins viscometric coefficient, k H , and molecular weight of polymers which in a given solvent associate via end-group interactions forming linear and cyclic multimers. The equation was used to calculate the association constant ( K a = 2.2 × 10 2 mol/l) for nylon 12 from experimental data. Values of the constant of intramolecular cyclization of unimers were estimated; their dependence on polymer molecular weight was less steep than suggested by the theory of macrocyclic equilibria.
