Abstract

1. Dilatometric curves obtained at 800–1000° were analyzed and also the kinetics of graphitization of cast irons with 0.03–0.28% sulfur (excess sulfur not combined with manganese). 2. It was found that the activation energy of graphitization Qe is minimal in the first moments for cast irons with −0.03% ΔS. For all the cast irons investigated the value of Qe decreases with graphitizing time. With a change of ΔS from 0.03 to 0.11% the initial values of Qe increase, and with 0.28% ΔS the final values of Qe increase.
