Abstract

A case study of drilled and grouted piles in rock, which were analyzed using results of down-hole dilatometer tests is presented. The tests were performed from a jack-up platform in water depths up to 21 meters and provided the deformation modulus of the fractured mudstone encountered below seabed. This deformation modulus, combined with the results of several laboratory tests performed on rock core samples, provided the geotechnical data required for the design of the pile foundation of a quay wall. The evaluation of the rock to grout shaft resistance, the grout to pile shaft resistance, the end bearing capacity and the lateral pile response data for piles in rock, using the dilatometer results, is described.
