Abstract
Rh(I) complexes of S-triazines and azobenzene were found to be very efficient towards the catalytic hydrogenation of alkenes, alkynes at normal pressure, and at room temperature. Reduction of aromatic nitrocompounds, benzaldehyde, and benzil were observed in appreciable amounts only at high pressure and at high temperature. No diminished catalytic activity was observed even after 6–8 repeated catalytic runs. Profound effect was observed on the rate of reduction in presence of extra ligand without affecting the nature of yield, both under normal and high pressure conditions. Kinetics was studied. Mechanism has been proposed and rate equation has been derived.
