Abstract
The long-awaited results of the Effect of Digitalis on Mortality and Hospitalisations in Patients with Heart Failure study conducted by the Digitalis Investigation Group (DIG), show that digoxin had no impact on mortality in patients with congestive heart failure (CHF), most of whom were already taking angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors and diuretics. However, the drug exhibited overall clinical efficacy in virtually all subgroups of patients studied, according to investigators speaking at the 45th Annual Scientific Session of the American College of Cardiology [Florida, US; March 1996].
