Abstract

The application of new technologies to the cartographical and mapping realms has gone far and beyond their initial ‘research and development’ birthplaces. Digital video surveying was born out of the ability to ‘turn video spatial’, and as such incorporates a whole host of different types of software and hardware to provide a truly spatial solution to undertaking accurate surveys and utilising the information they provide. This article outlines the development of state-of-the-art digital video surveying technology that is revolutionising both spatial data capture and visualisation of road and highway asset information.
