Abstract

The Digital Video Broadcasting Project (DVB) is an industry-led consortium, whose aim is to develop global specifications for digital media delivery systems, which are then approved as standards by international standardization bodies. The origins of the DVB Project are derived from the efforts of key players in the media sector, to find a pan-European solution to promote the development of digital television. DVB accepts applications for membership from organizations operating anywhere in the world as broadcasters, content providers, infrastructure providers, manufacturers, software suppliers, national regulatory bodies, or governments. The authorities of the DVB Project are the General Assembly, the Steering Board, ad hoc Groups, and Working Groups. The DVB Project raises funds from annual membership fees. The DVB Project plays an important role in developing specifications for digital television and contributes to the proliferation of open standards across the globe.
