Abstract

This paper discusses the efforts of the Chinese government to establish a state-of-the-art digital TV infrastructure in time for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. There is pressure, especially in the local television industry, to show that not only is China ready for the high-tech world but also for a piece of the local market for television receivers, already the world's largest, with some 40 million new TV sets sold to Chinese consumers annually.
