Abstract

This article is about digitization of the world economy. The authors consider it an epochal transformation. The article describes the content of the digital economy, its prerequisites, forms of manifestation, differences from the traditional economy, its advantages and disadvantages (more precisely, threats) and others. In the article, a bibliographic study was actually conducted on this issue, that is, the opinions of various scientists (Jolia, Lekashivli, Maglakelidze, Tutov, Kovacs, Rimeikene, Schneider, Gasparainere, Erkomaishvili, Bauri, Hong, Katasinov, Javakhadze, Khikhadze, Rigozhnikova and others) on digital transformation were discussed. They are compared and reconciled, and their own opinions are also expressed. In the article, the authors present the state of digitization of the economy in Georgia, Georgia's neighboring countries and the world as a whole, and conclude that Georgia has an average position according to the DIGIX index (57th place among 99 countries). The article provides information on provision of computers (82%), access to the Internet (79.3%), provision of mobile phones (84.8%) and others. Since digitalization is an innovative process, it is led in Georgia by the Agency of Innovation and Technology of Georgia, which implements a number of programs in this direction - artificial intelligence, the "Startup Georgia" program, nanotechnologies and others. According to the authors, the state's support for this issue in Georgia is at a rather low level - the country does not have a digital transformation strategy, its funding is meager, etc. In conclusion, the authors note that they agree with the opinion of world-class scientists that the development of the digital economy should be a priority in any country, but they consider blind imitation dangerous and consider it necessary to conduct a wide and deep study of the reliability of digitization in terms of its impact on the human psyche. Keywords: digitalization; digital transformation; level of digitization; digital initiatives; digital skills; Digital economy.
