Abstract

This major research paper explores the experience, perception, and valuation of time within digital media. It examines notions of time and queries how these both inform and are shaped by digital spaces themselves. This work seeks to build upon initial explorations of ‘time and media’ as well as ‘time in media’ within the fields of digital media and new media. Its goal is to contribute to the knowledge base of digital media practitioners and creator scholars to aid in informing and enhancing interactive virtual communication, creative expression, and immersive user experience. The discussion begins with a literature review, provides a case study content analysis of temporal experience and perception in Unus Annus as a time-focused digital media artifact, proposes a project design for an interactive multimedia experience, and lays out a creative scholar research trajectory to further explore time within digital spaces.
