Abstract

A number of digital techniques are used in modern TV-sets, i.e. remote-control, frequency synthesis and teletext. Nevertheless, the signal from the antenna to the picture tube is still analogue. Digital signal processing (DSP) will substitute these analogue techniques due to inherent advantages, such as precise, flexible handling of the signal and the possibility to store the signal in a digital memory. Since digital processing requires much more transistors for the same functions, it is a question of digital MOS-technologies when DSP is economical in consumer electronics.
