Abstract

Communication and information management are among the key areas of management operations at every stage of a construction project life cycle. The use of innovative digital technologies and tools for conducting such operations may significantly improve the preparation and execution of a construction project and it enables the preparation of a collection of information required to efficiently use the structure. The aim of this article is to present the results of the latest research related to the application of digitization in the Facility Management based on a critical literature review of 2010 - 2016. The article investigates the potential of Building Information Modelling to integrate data for the building lifecycle, providing information and decision support to facility management and maintenance. The results of the implementation of digital techniques for the purpose of smart Facility Management were discussed on the basis of a case study of The Edge office building in Amsterdam. The article also suggests possible directions for further research related to digitization in property management and its impact on the process of implementing the concept of intelligent and sustainable construction engineering.
