Abstract

A method for digital simulation of linear-sweep cyclic voltammetry has been developed for redox processes of soluble species on heterogeneous electrodes (electrodes with different rate constants for the same electrode process). The heterogeneity may arise from the formation of an oxide film on the electrode or the deposit of a metal with different electrocatalytic activity. The method has been applied to simulate both Cr(III) reduction on a tin-catalysed graphite electrode in a hydrochloric acid medium and the inhibition of the oxidation of a substrate on a polycrystalline gold electrode.
