Abstract

The unified power flow controller (UPFC) is a series and shunt compensatory voltage source converter (VSC) based on the flexible ac transmission technology (FACT). The FACT device can be linked to a transmission line in a variety of ways, including series and shunt combinations in multiline transmission systems. On an electric transmission line, UPFC is utilized for reactive power correction. A static synchronous compensation device is an imbalanced current electricity network regulating device. The digital simulation of the shunt voltage source converter operates as STATCOM controlling the voltage at the bus and series converter. In this paper, MATLAB/Simulink is used to control the series and shunt converters of a UPFC transmission line. It is premised on power electronics voltage source converter with 48-pulse VSC and 60-pulse VSC, the performance of the UPFC scheme connected to the 500kv transmission line. The simulation results for 60-, 48-pulse gate turn-off (GTO) based VSC 100MVAR UPFC coupled to two ac bus power systems are shown as simulation results. The VSC currents and supplies require reactive power in single-line to ground (L-G) and line-to-line (L-L) faults and three-phase system failures.
