Abstract

Summary The work was carried out for a comprehensive study of the catastrophic gas blowout object C17 in 2020 on the Yamal Peninsula in the vicinity of the giant Bovanenkovo oil and gas-condensate field. The usage of an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV - drone DJI Mavic Pro) at two flight levels has made it possible to create a full-fledged database of aerial photographs. As a result of their complex photogrammetric processing, a digital model of the earth’s surface near the crater and its underground cavity was built. The use of new technologies made it possible for the first time to create a high-precision digital twin of the underground cavity and the C17 gas blowout crater, which gives possibility to survey the underground cavity in virtual reality. The results obtained contributed to the completion of the 7-year period of fundamental scientific research on the genesis of the dangerous natural phenomenon of powerful gas blowouts in the Arctic.
