Abstract

Methods for modeling power systems modes and testing relay protection devices using real-time modeling complexes and using computer software systems that allow modeling in a conventional time scale are considered. Informational input signals of protection during simulation in the conditional model time mode are obtained in the computational experiment course, and protection devices tests are carried out using hardware-software test complexes using calculated input signals. The power system stability study when changing the generating and consuming electrical equipment modes, the relay protection devices state requires testing using digital simulators in a closed loop mode. At the same time, feedbacks between the power system model operating in real time and external devices or their models should be determined (modeled). Real-time simulation was carried out and an using digital power system simulators for real-time simulation (RTDS simulator) world experience analysis was carried out. RTDS complexes use examples by foreign power companies for testing relay protection and control systems, testing the various equipment and automatic control devices interaction, analyzing cybersecurity and assessing the power systems under emergency situations various scenarios functioning are given. To check the relay protection devices performance without taking into account the power system response, tests can be carried out in an open loop mode using hardware and software test complexes. Methods for testing relay protections and their models in open-loop mode are proposed.
