Abstract

Fast data acquisition and digital signal processing techniques with a 16-bit microcomputer are applied to the study of intermittently turbulent flow in the transitional boundary layer. The digital methods compare favourably with traditional analogue instrumentation and the potential for futher detailed processing is extensive. The results have highlighted some structural features of the intermittent transitional boundary layer which are masked when using bulk time-averaged techniques.
