Abstract

We have investigated the influence of additive agent on the deposition morphology of the electrolytic Al foils using the AlCl3–1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride (EMIC) (molar ratio 2 : 1) bath. The electrolytic Al foils were prepared by the pulse electrolysis. The morphology and the surface roughness of the electrolytic Al foils were characterized by FE-SEM, AFM, and XRD. The surface roughness and the crystallite size of the electrolytic Al foils were decreased by increasing the pulse frequency and the addition of 1,10-phenanthroline (OP). It was found that the OP addition had more greatly influence on the surface roughness of the electrolytic Al foil than the pulse frequency.
