Abstract

After resolving the temporomandibular joint disorder (TMD) symptomatology prosthetic finalization can be performed. The purpose of this case report was to show digital planning of prosthetic treatment to achieve occlusal stability after gnathological treatment in a patient with a previous TMD. The patient suffered from TMD and clinical examination showed occlusal instability. A gnathological treatment with occlusal splints was performed achieving the absence of painful symptomatology. During the lockdown, the patient complained of the reappearance of joint pain. After a few months with new occlusal splints, digitally planned, the patient referred a reduction of TMJ symptomatology. A prosthetic treatment was planned to achieve occlusal stability and mandibular repositioning according to the previous gnathological treatment. After a few years of occlusal splints, the prosthetic treatment was planned with a provisional splint to be wearied during the day, and maintaining the night splint to prevent the representation of TMD symptomatology. The .stl files of mandibular repositioning were shared with the technician to plan the final prosthetic rehabilitation. This case report shows how, after solving TMD symptomatology with gnathological treatment with occlusal splints, digital planning of prosthetic treatment can achieve a new occlusal and mandibular relationship in accordance with the previously achieved articular position with occlusal splints. The digital registration of the new mandibular position appears crucial to achieving an interdisciplinary treatment
