Abstract

Merits and existing problems of using pulsed semiconductor lasers as optical clock for optoelectronic integrate circuits (OEIC) are discussed. Examples are taken from the research efforts of the author's group on opto-electronic demultiplexing and multiplexing based either on fast photoconductive switch or on bistable semiconductor laser. Importance of developing optical circuit technology enabling multiple input/output optical connection is pointed out.
