Digital Literacy from 2019-2023: A Scientometric Study

Abstract

Digital literacy has attracted much academic attention in recent years. This study analyses its growth, collaborative networks, trending topics, or research hotspots in education, identifies the future of digital literacy research and provides valuable information for future researchers. The research employed a scientometric method, utilizing data from the Web of Science database from 2019 to 2023. Subsequent actions included the identification and selection of keywords, the execution of data processing through advanced bibliometric visualization tools, the examination of the practical implications arising from the study’s findings. Digital literacy spans various fields, but has a significant impact on education. The results show that digital literacy was the most frequently occurring keyword over the past five years and has generally trended upward. Computers& Education, Education and Information Technologies, and Education Sciences are among the top three journals in terms of both publication volume and impact. McgrorS, Tomczyk L and Wu D are the three most published and influential authors. The United States has the most research, with more than half of the institutions researching digital literacy coming from the United States. Digital literacy remains worthy of research in the future, while artificial intelligence, pandemics, and health literacy could also be future research directions.
