Abstract

ABSTRACTThe Digital Library Polona, the digital counterpart of the National Library of Poland, is one of the leading digital libraries in Europe. Its long-term strategies are providing open access to the best quality scans, providing satisfactory user experience, and keeping up with technological progress in the field. Polona formed collaborative partnerships with several institutions to strengthen digital humanities. These include Wikipedia, Europeana (“Europeana Collections,” https://www.europeana.eu/portal/en (accessed May 2, 2019)) and the International Image Interoperability Framework Consortium (IIIF-C) (“IIIF Consortium – IIIF, International Image Interoperability Framework,” https://iiif.io/community/consortium/#the-iiif-consortium (accessed May 2, 2019)). In this article, the collections and history of Polona are discussed as well as future prospects for development.
