Abstract

Mutual diffusion coefficients of alkali-silver-nitrate molten salts and of mixtures between [BMIm]PF 6 and methanol have been measured using Digital Image Holography. The diffusion coefficients of the alkali-silver nitrate molten salt systems show an exponential temperature and a parabolic concentration dependence. Compared to the hot molten salt systems very low values of the diffusion coefficient of methanol/[BMIm]PF 6 especially at high ionic liquid concentrations are obtained and therefore long measuring times (up to 4 days) must be accepted. Even under these conditions, the method of Digital Image Holography is able to produce reliable diffusion data. The differential diffusion coefficient of methanol/[BMIm]PF 6 plotted against the concentration shows an inverse exponential dependence on the concentration.
