Abstract

The first-order 3D IIR frequency-planar filter is implemented in toroidal coordinates for the selective enhancement of spatio-temporal video-objects on the surface of a torus. Selective enhancement of linear flow video-objects on the surface of a torus using multidimensional DSP techniques may find potential applications in areas such as mechanics, physics, fluid dynamics, and magnetohydrodynamics. We demonstrate the proposed toroidal trajectory 3D IIR filter using an FPGA circuit implementation in order to demonstrate its multidimensional stability, usefulness, and potential for single-chip VLSI hardware. The filter is implemented on a single Xilinx Virtex-4 xc4vsx35 ff668-10 FPGA device and is successfully tested on-chip using synthetic toral linear-flow video-object signals generated in Matlab, using on-chip stepped hardware cosimulation.
