Abstract

The paper is concerned with the use of various filters in cylinder surface texture assessment. In the first part of the paper the performance of an analogue 2RC filter is compared with that of Gaussian and double Gaussian profile digital filters. The mid-point locus mean line was also analysed. The necessity of using a double Gaussian filter during the analysis of cylinder profiles after honing and running-in is discussed. The next part of this paper is concerned with 3-D surface filtering, and the difference between filtering of 3-D surfaces and 2-D profiles is discussed.
