Abstract

In AC-DC switching power converters, Active Front End (AFE) three phase rectifiers have many applications, and there are many schemes to control these converters. A digital Finite Control Set Model Predictive Controller (FCS-MPC) based on fixed-point calculations of an active front-end rectifier with unity power factor of the input current and voltage to improve dynamic response has been presented in this paper. In this work by using predictive control and fixed-point computations, the optimum switching state is selected. A digital controller is implemented on an FPGA platform. The controller has a low-cost architecture with minimal functional units and provides considerably better dynamic performance compared with other controllers.
