Abstract

The power and versatility of the minicomputer has become an established fact specially in the developed world. Minicomputers and microprocessors have proved successful in a variety of processing plants, notably in chemical industries, for many years. They have proved to be a reliable yet flexible method of control which provides a good operator plant interface coupled with extensive analysis and management reporting facilities. Similar requirements of monitoring and control are encountered in the Indian mining industry; although whereas the requirements for mines are more stringent, those of mineral preparation plant are much less complicated. However, with some modifications in the field equipment and a fail-safe method of transmission of control and monitoring signals to and from the field, the same philosophy has been successfully applied to the mining industry.
