Abstract

In order to show in a practical way that digital component videotape recording at 230 Mbit/sec is technically feasible with a tape consumption comparable to that of a one-inch analog VTR, an experimental digital VTR was demonstrated at the First SMPTE Demonstration of Component-Coded Digital Video. This recorder could successfully record 14:7:7 component-coded digital-video data. The error-correction procedure worked quite satisfactory, with no visible impairment being observed — even after the 23rd generation. Some technical aspects and results of the experiments are given.
