Abstract

Purpose: Digital chest drains have increasingly been used in thoracic surgery. Their use in trauma has not been previously described. There is currently no protocol in place for removal of intercostal catheters (ICC) based on digital measurements of air or fluid leak volumes amongst this patient population. This study sought to describe the experience of a tertiary trauma centre with digital chest drains (Thopaz) following surgery for traumatic chest injuries.
