Abstract

With the increase of digital media use among youth, concerns about the displacement of healthy behaviors and the management of digital media addictive-like behaviors in the clinical setting are growing. Given the mental health comorbidities of problematic digital media use, there is a need to understand better the individual characteristics, type of media use, effects on mental health, and approaches to early identification and treatment of digital media addictive-like behaviors. The objectives of this session are to: 1) review individual and media-related differences in mental health outcomes; and 2) provide guidance to clinicians on the ways to approach behavioral screen addictions.
