Abstract

This work presents an experimental evaluation of single-channel long-distance transmission over a homogeneous single-mode multicore fiber. We compare the detection of 20 GBaud polarization-multiplexed quadrature-phase-shift-keyed signals with and without the use of high-order multiple-input multiple output systems, to undo crosstalk-induced degradation, combined with digital back-propagation to undo fiber nonlinearity-induced degradation. It is shown that these techniques combined enable a transmission reach increase of 28%.
