Abstract
Digit tip regeneration following amputation is an innate response in some mammals, including mice. In this issue of Cell Stem Cell, Johnston etal. (2016) show that Schwann cell precursors are necessary for this process and can rescue regeneration in denervated digit tips through secretion of pro-regenerative factors including OSM and PDGF-AA.
