Abstract

- High resolution satellite images, such as produced with Landsat Thematic Mapper and SPOT are affected with relief induced distortion. Little variations in elevation are suficient to produce sensitive amounts of parallax, if the image is taken in oblique viewing mode. For many applications, processed satellite images are used together with conventional georeferenced data in a geographic information system. Thus geometric registration based on polynomials is not accurate enough to achieve cartographic accuracy in satellite images. A digital elevation model is used together with a SPOT image, with the sensor, oriented 13.5' off nadir. Geometrical transformations and radiometrical resampling is performed independently to produce an ortho-image. The radiometrical aspects are emphasized in this research. An equation is proposed for weighted radiometric resampling.
