Abstract

A Beckman-Spinco Model-H diffusiometer operating in the Rayleigh inter-ferometric mode was used to measure the diffusion coefficients of solutions near the melting point of ethanol in pivalic (trimethylacetic) acid (P-E). The Gosting diffusiometer operating in the Gouy mode was used to measure diffusion coefficients near the melting point in dilute solutions of acetone in succinonitrile (S-A) and salol (phenyl salicylate) in succinonitrile (S-Sa). The infinite dilution values were determined to be P-E- (35.5/dgC): 0.590±0.01 x 10 -9 m 2/s, S-A (58°C): 0.925± 0.02 x 10 -9 m 2/s, and S-Sa (58/dgC): 0.395±0.01 x 10 -9 m 2/s.
