Abstract

The deposition of submicron aerosol particles on metal screens has been studied at small Reynolds numbers. The obtained experimental data have been compared with theoretical estimates of the deposition of Brownian particles in a model fibrous filter with allowance for a finite particle size and the existence of a Knudsen boundary layer on a wire surface, with the thickness of the layer being, under normal conditions, comparable with particle sizes. The possibility of using screen diffusion batteries for determining the average diffusion coefficient of submicron particles and as test filters has been discussed.
