Abstract

The diffusion coefficients of supersaturated aqueous solutions of glycine were measured employing Gouy interferometry as a function of solution “age”. In all cases the diffusion coefficient declined with “age”. This effect was attributed to the evolution of molecular clusters in the metastable solution with time. A method for the calculation of cluster evolution and time dependent diffusion coefficients was developed. Calculated results agree with experimental results within a worst case of 20% with most results within 5%.
