Abstract

We consider different hyperbolic systems of balance laws governing relativistic two-species flows in mechanical equilibrium, but out of thermal equilibrium. Firstly, we focus on formulating explicit relaxation procedures that respect the second law of thermodynamics. Then, we prove that if a model ℳ2 arises from a model ℳ1 through a relaxation procedure, the hydrodynamical waves velocities λ are related by . The relaxation procedures we will consider are thermal relaxation and chemical relaxation.
