Abstract

Diffuse infiltrating lipomatosis is an uncommon clinicopathological condition characterized by widespread proliferation and overgrowth of non-encapsulated fatty tissue that infiltrates local tissues. It is histologically benign and resembles a simple lipoma except for its invasive nature. Diffuse infiltrating abdominal lipomatosis involving the abdominal cavity including retroperitoneal and peritoneal spaces is a very rare condition. Computed tomography can enable us to determine the precise location, size and extent of the lipomatous tumor and display its relation to neighboring structures. Also, it is useful in the planning of surgery and to determine the feasibility of complete resection. In this report we present a rare case of diffuse infiltrating abdominal lipomatosis involving both peritoneal and retroperitoneal spaces.
