Abstract

SINCE diffuse gastric polyposis was first classified by Menetrier1 in 1888, over 125 cases have been reported.2 3 4 5 6 7 Other cases in the literature are described under the heading of "giant hypertrophic gastritis,"8 9 10 11 12 which has been suggested as being synonymous with the second group of cases discussed by Menetrier — the rarer type, polyadenome en nappe. The case reported below belongs in this classification. Although it is a benign disease there are reports of associated cancer in 51 per cent of cases,5 and the more recent reports therefore advocate total gastrectomy.
