Abstract
Optimization of optical system performance and novel optical components based on diffractive optics technology will be described. Both laser and broadband applications are emphasized. Diffractive optics provides optical system designers with new and exciting degrees of freedom, which can be used to optimize system performance and create new optical components and systems. Applications include laser scanners, head-mounted and head-up displays, optical-disk readout heads, aberration-correction for monochromatic and broadband optical systems (XUV to IR), and antireflection structured surfaces. We address three principal topics: wide-field diffractive lenses for laser systems; diffractive/refractive components for broadband systems; and antireflective structured surfaces.
