Abstract

Abstract We describe the numerical analysis which allows the evaluation of the near field diffracted by a reflection grating constituted by grooves engraved in a perfectly conducting plane mirror, in the case when the profile of the groove is an arc of a circle. Two cases are considered, namely when the grooves are at antiresonance and when the grooves have a semicircular profile. The absorption losses of such gratings are compared with those of the rectangular profile gratings which give rise to the same near field. The numerical analysis refers to a grating with pitch smaller than the wavelength. Particular attention is given to the evanescent space harmonics.
